Thanks Dean, I really need to play around with this a bit more I think... maybe even try some true HDRs by bracketing some shots for a change! :D

Here's a couple of threads that explains it much better than I!

Basically you use this photoshop function to merge a bracketed set of shots exposed for the highlights and the shadows. I cheated and used a threshold mask instead :)

I sometimes clean up fringing by clone-stamping along the edge from the sky just beside it... bit time consuming though... there must be a better way...
