This is superb - pin-sharp, and the grain makes it look almost like an old etching.

thanks all!

Awesome, Gary, how do you meter a scene like this?

Sheer luck bri4n! The FED3 is fully manual, I think I used the f16 rule so this was probably shoot at 1/500s at f8 (for low sun), luckily the b&w film gives me a couple of stops more latitude to work with in CS2! :)

There is nothing like Black and White on a film camera - Digitals never get it right, to me Digitally altered BW looks cold and lacks the contrast and detail of real BW film

This is beautiful, theres no other word for it. Gorgeous image

thanks very much monkeyc! I agree nothing beats film for B&W but given the right tools, digital B&W can be ok too. Most people just use 'greyscale' or the 'b&w* option on their cameras which are both lame methods for conversion! I tend to fine tune the pic in terms of levels, contrast and simulate colour filters through the channels tool in CS2.

Saying that, I still prefer film! :)

I think the problem for me is not knowing enough about the techniques in photoshop to do it properly more than anything - but my first love is film and BW film - Ilford FP4 remains my favorite of any film to work with - wonderful grain that you can step on forever.

ive yet to try some Ilford, but will do over the new year i think! looking forwards to it :)

fantastic atmosphere - and an amazing sky.

just amazing

Yes, great sky... who needs colourful sunsets!?

whats going on with the frame there? I am currently the owner of a Seagull 4A Twin Lens camera! Have bought some BW rolls and colour rolls, I'll let you know how I get on!! It's a lot of fun so far!! thanks for the advice.

the picture really doesn't look like Scotland!!

good job matey!! :) very jealous!

The frame is the actual film frame of the FED camera. I like including when I scan in the negs myself since it gives a vintage look :)

glasgow is a beautiful city, it wasn't called 'second city of the empire' for nothing you know!

cheddar-
excellent! I love the bw.

This is a great B&W, it looks like an old postcard. You captured a great sky, and you composed it like a master!

Look at Me :P

cheers guys! :)

Good treatment of the black and white one. The contrast is very obtained. As far as the composition, IMO, lacks a subject/object in first plane and the horizon seems inclined.

beautiful B&W, but a shame about that car in the foreground. I would have liked to see more of that, or nothing at all...

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Black And White Scotland, and we'd love to have your photo added to the group.

Hi Gary. I've just won a Zorki 4K with the Jupiter 8 lens (part of a trio of cameras), but it's sounds like the shutter's jammed. I've heard of a fix, so I've got my fingers crossed I can sort it out.

I ended up here because I did a tag search for 'Jupiter 8' and your photo was the second most interesting picture ;-)
