Lovely . . . beautiful expression on the professor's face

pictures like this one always make me think why those 30 or so years ago even tiny fixed lens compact rangefinders and viewfinders sported quality sharp glass and now you can splash a grand on a top end DSLR and they'll still give you an underachieving kit zoom only :-)

it is depressing isn't it! i suspect that the zuiko 50/1.8 on the OM series is derived from the SP version. Same kind of lens nomenclature and construction. hmmmm
Zuiko_Addict
Yes, the OM Zuiko 50/1.8 has its heritage in the 42/1.7 from the SP/LC/LE/RD, etc. I am loving the G.ZUIKO 50/1.4 right now, but feeling that my 50/1.8 miJ is getting an inferiority complex, so I am going to haul it out and exercise it a bit.
But back to the SP ... that 42/1.7 is an absolute gem, and I don't think I will ever exhaust its goodness. And with the ability to use lower shutter speeds, it will always be a "go-to" camera.

7 element lens on a fixed focal length rangefinder with spot metering. every pore of the 35SP oozes class and quality :) my only gripe is that the meter is on the side of the camera rather then on the nose like the rest of the series and most other RFs of the age. oh well, can't have everything!
I still feel that the zuiko 42/1.7 is sharper than any of my other RFs wide open or otherwise. even if it does display a tiny bit of vignetting when shot under dark conditions. i think it adds character ;)

This is simply an excellent photograph. I realized that right in the second I saw it.
And: This vignetting adds a lot of character and somehow closes the pictures and makes them seem more complete. All pictures from this camera just look so good! I am looking forward to see the first rolls from my little 35sp-gem :)
