I wish I knew a way to date these by Ser. #. I thought they stopped in the 80's. My manual looks very early 70's. I don't know if they updated it with the times or just kept reprinting it.

Really? Cool. I don't think Canon still produce cameras in Taiwan :P

This would have been back in the 70s and early 80s olvwu :) I don't think anyone would be producing the canonet any longer! Although that would be cool!

okay soooo
the deals:

shutter doesn't work. is that independent of the battery? (i.e. do you think i *only* have the sticky shutter problem?)

i put a brand new battery in it..although it was what i think is the fake px625's (got it from radio shack--from what i understand they don't make the real ones anymore)

but the blue light doesn't come on .

i sure want to get this thing going. it's just a joy to handle!

try a 1.4v zinc-air hearing aid battery. That's what I use. If that still doesn't work then try making sure its in tight as far as it can go.

If the shutter doesn't fire, look into the lens and see if there are some 'grime' or oil marks in the blades. If there is then it's probably a sticker shutter problem.

If you have more problems then go to www.rangefinderforum.com and ask the guys there! One of them fixed my canonet! :D

so...does the shutter fire without a working battery? or do i have to have a working battery in order for the shutter to even fire?

j.

isaidjon, the shutter *should* be able to fire even without battery. The canont is both auto and manually operated. Make sure your aperture ring is off 'A'. If the shutter doesn't fire then I think you might have a sticky shutter problem.
