Isn't that thing cool. I've yet to use the flash, but it does look great.
Mine came with a case! :P

My Canonet came with a case too but for some reason all canonet cases are somehow designed to self-destruct after a few years. Unusable as always :) Damn you Wade! Always one up! :P

Did your flash have the case also? And did you get the manual?
Unfortunately, I damaged my canonet case. It looked so fresh, but simply opening it up caused it to crack. SO fragile. Very sad.
Damn you Wade! Always one up! :P
Ha, but you have me beat by far in quantity.

The flash came with the generic plastic case which being plastic actually outlived the canonet case! :) The cases are made from some crappy paint covered felt board or something which hardens and flakes and get everywhere. I rather not keep my prestine camera in a sticky glue trap!! :)
The flash is so simple to use that one doesn't really need a manual, (i've got a downloaded manual for the camera though) you slot it on, turn it to A and off you go, don't have to work out guide numbers or manually set aperture settings! Great little thing if you get a working one, in this case I did! :D :D :D

What could cause one of these flashes to stop working?

any number of reasons really. corroded battery contacts, fried wiring, bulb past it's life span worth of shots... etc etc. check inside the battery chamber, do you see green gunk on the contacts? if so, clean them off with some white wine vinegar on a cotton q-tip. that's about as much diy you can do on it without taking it apart.

It looks to be in perfect condition. The battery compartment is nice and clean. When I put batteries in and turn it on, I do hear the high pitch whining noise.
I put it on my Holga but it wouldn't flash, I also tried it on my Hi-Matic 7 with the same results.

hmmmmm sounds like internal wiring's gone :-/ maybe you should try looking for a replacement. they are not that expensive.

Yeah, I only paid fifty cents for mine. Thanks.

so jealous, i always wanted a canolite d for mine, but right now the ql17 is not even functioning so quite hard to justify...

it's a beautiful setup :) the 35sp has a similar one-> you set the GN of whatever flash and the camera takes care of everything else :) the beauty of coupling aperture to a fixed lens

I am not sure if you guys will see my comment as the first comment was written 12 years ago :O but I will try my best. I just bought canonet ql17 giii and it came with new canolite d. It works just fine, only thing is the pilot lamp doesn’t lit when I turn it on and the high pitched noise never goes away... any idea why is that? thanks!
