No one wants to hazard a guess? Come oooooon it's easy! I refuse to believe that anyone born in the early 80s and earlier had not seen Kelly's Heroes or read a war comic!

seeing that link, it reminds me of the 'tiger terror' which struck allied tankers after d-day. because of the tiger's infamous reputation, every german tank which vaguely resembled it was shouted out as 'TIGER!' and much retreating was usually involved. in fact there were only about 50 tigers in the whole of Normandy.

the syrian panzer iv in the wiki article had the extra armour skirting around the turret (and usually around the side as well), which gave it a boxy appearance very similar to that of the tiger I- hence the confusion. easy way to spot tigers is through observing the tracks, it had much wider ones than any of the earlier panzers, and much larger road wheels- aspects of design nicked from the russians :)

damn! wiki pedia wrong once again:
how is one supposed attack the the world with heavy weapony with the wrong information:
maybe I need to ask G Bush and Billy Bliar: did'nt stop them! :-)))

oh I once had a freind who like you had a bit of a tank fetish: one thing I do remember him telling was that the "old" panzer and the russian T54s were still being sold /resold through the 3rd world into the early 80s: apparentlyboth being easy to repair mechanically

KF 红相机
yep, old panzer iv and stug iv tanks were sold to syria in the 50s, but most were knocked out or captured by the israelis during the conflicts in the 60s-70s. some of the ones in museums originated from when the israelis took the golan heights.

the t54/55 was still exported to some countries well into the 80s. it's a simple design, cheap, and very easy to maintain. the chinese built them under licence as the NORINCO 59, and they were sold in their thousands to the iraqis. most of those destroyed during the 1st gulf war were norinco 59s and 69s. total rubbish, not worth the metal they are built with!

god i'm such a fount of useless information...

PS. during the 90s, i swear to god i saw a tiger I in bosnian serb service during the conflict in former yugoslavia!

Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Die Cast and Plastic Models, and we'd love to have your photo added to the group.

I have a few of these Tiger tank models myself... Nice photo...
