I just picked up a yashica TLR myself! :) Can't wait to get a role through it....bit worried because the shutter is not firing though! Any tips?

yikes! that is worrying!
i reckon grease from the gears have seeped into the shutter blades. you can take the rear elements out through the back. open the back, you should see a retaining ring around the lens with two notches. unscrew this with a flat head screwdriver and the rear elements should pop out. can't remember if you can reach the blades at this point as it's been a while since i took my one apart. some lighter fluid carefully applied and fire away should do it.

I'm going to give that a go, I do think it's the self timer that is jamed that has caused it though...any ideas how I might unjam that mate?

oh dear. i hear that sometimes if someone has the flash synch lever on the wrong one (can't remember which), and then trip the self timer, it will jam up the shutter :(
