A smashing picture Carl. I hope that's a sea plane, if it's not it's a bit close for comfort to the water!

Excellent, those light beams have come out well.

You've captured the light beams really well.

the colours are really stron and the beams look great.

I love the light beams too but was mystified by them so perhaps someone might be able to explain.
I deliberately took a reasonable long exposure to soften the water out (although it wasn't particularly choppy) and to get the reflections on the water. I was aware of the light beams across the sky but they were constantly moving.
So, I was surprised when I looked at the shot and saw steady beams of light. It didn't make sense to me.
Any ideas?
And I'm hoping the plane was a well placed prop and not some cheap package tour gone wrong.

If the beams’ patterns of movement repeatedly passed through the same point (say in a figure of 8 loop where they crossed in middle) then that point would become a kind of “hotspot” which might register on the sensor. It’s one possible explanation…
…or maybe you just ’shopped ’em in.

mmm, shiney bright reflections... they do indeed look great.

Duncan, I'm not that adept at the 'shop' yet!

Nice sparkly shot! That plane is intriguing... Seems so out of context...
