I like that the background looks motion blurred while the subject looks crisp. I think the colors and his expression/pose definitely convey the mood you were going for.
I also really like how the benches lead my eye directly to the subjects face. Everything in ths photos says "look at my face and piss off!" haha. Good job!

I really like how crisp the subject is, and the simplicity of his expression and clothes. The blur may have been a bit too strong, it doesn't look completely natural.
The benches are a great background though. Really well shot.

Cheers everyone (who made a constructive comment that is)
Cabbit: The blurring was 99% natural as I shot this wide open at f1.8 The slight 'radial' shape is my attempt at mimicking a even wider lens :) Check this out:

Got it in one Dave! :D Fancy seeing them at the Dublin Castle? (london joke!)

krasnyi: Yeah I'm aware of what you were trying to do and thanks for the example (the cat one is nice), but I'm still able to differentiate between the genuine lens and the postproduction radial blur. An unsharp mask on the background may have worked better
fabiolanotte
What a bokeh! How do you simulate it?
KF 红相机
cheers fabio :) i first drew a selection marquee around dom, then feathered it and copied the selection to a new layer, then i applied radial blur to the bottom layer to reproduce the swirl effect. finally i darkened the corners with the grad tool (half black, half clear)

I'm drawing a portrait which that person has a similar pose to your subject, and also wearing a hoodie.
