It's very good. Composition is clean and strong. The complementary colors are terrific too.

Elegant composition and beautiful colour. Excellent study!

So what do you produce when you're really trying? ;-).

isolano.
The composition is nice, and so is the lighting, but there's something about the dark blue background that I don't like.

I like it. Looks like flame.Would be better with another background color

Yes, another background color would be nice. Not a big job with photoshop i think, also i don't like shopping at all. But the Flame-flower would profit from it.
In this case:

Almost so close! It's not the background that bugs me - in fact, it makes the flame effect stronger, and I love that. It's just a little white at the bottom of the flower where it should be in the dark, and there's one white edge on the flower that needs a bit of PS.

yes, much better than the ordinary flower macro.

Won't vote on this one, deleting it would feel unfair as it's so much better than the average I've seen recently... But I wish we could see the green a little more. I'm a bit uncomfortable with the color of the background, but not sure of what alternative. I would have framed it vertically rahter than horizontally, to emphasize the flame impression.

Nice one!

This is a perfect photograph. But is it good photography.

Anything removed from its natural environment is artificial. And I don't like that.

If it was a bottle of perfume or a machine part or anything man made I would have saved it. I can't bring myself to save this.

Sorry.

damn. I dislike flower photos probably more than most people, but this is goody good good. looks like a flame. something about that background bugs me too, but not enough to make a difference.

i find the colours just a bit too simple minded. personally i'd like to see a different, more interesting background colour. and i agree with clapalley's comment about it feeling artificial.

Yeah - it's gorgeous. Simple, effective, tranquil, yet there's a lovely motion in th ephoto created by the flower sweeping up and to the right. It's almost like a ballerina.

Very nice.

Bella, muy bella!! :) , lástima del espacio vacio a la derecha... :(, pero no es suficiente para borrarla! :)

Elegant - i love it. The background needs to be a green, in my opinion - perhaps similar to the stem color?

If the subject was either more detailed or had greater purity the background might work but here it doesn't do it for me.

Great shot

joaobambu
Lovely. The other day I did a similar shot but here in Brazil I used a banana leaf... but what a consumerlevel canon lens does can´t match that lovely 55mm!

Reminds me a series of Robert Mapplethorpe. Beautiful!

Great shot! I like the contrast between the flower and the dark blue background.

I just love this image. Thank you for posting it. I'm amazed that this is your first shot with new equipment... Great job!

I've read the commentary stream and am surprised to see that some did not like the background. On my screen it is just a shade more blue than black and is Perfect for this image.

hereticseeker
ouch! yellow & Bule! i like the colour contrast
